William Hubbard has served as the Regional Forester for the Extension Service-Southern Region since 1993. This is a liaison to thirteen 1862 University Land Grant University and the Southern Region of the U.S. Forest Service. His work involves using new and traditional technologies in regional educational programming and enhanced communication and coordination of information and activities across states and agencies in the areas of forestry and natural resource management. He previously held several teaching, research and Extension positions at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
He is currently a member of the National Urban and Community Forestry Advisory Council. He also chairs the Outreach and Education Committee of the American Forest Foundation, where he serves on the National Operating Committee for the American Forest Foundation.
Bill is currently a co-principal investigator on two regional USDA grants focusing on research, teaching and education in the areas of bioenergy and climate change. He assists with regional leadership on the Extension components of the NIFA AFRI PINEMAP and IBSS projects.
Bill has been an active member of the Society of American Foresters and the Association of Natural Resource Extension Professionals. He holds BS and MS degrees in forest management and forest economics from the University of Florida and a PhD from the University of Georgia in adult education with an emphasis on program evaluation. He lives in Athens with his four boys and wife of 10 years.
